When I first saw the preview of "The Substance" last summer, I was intrigued! I also remember Demi Moore & Dennis Quaid were both in the film too, so I was skeptical. I've never been a huge fan of either actor. The buzz was strong though and the trailer made me excited so when the film came out in September, I knew I had to see it and WOW! The film was quite the experience! I remember as I was processing it, the film being too long and that the last half hour was bonkers crazy, but overall French filmmaker, Coralie Fargeat had created something bizarre, yet fresh, unique and wholly original. The film tackles how society feels about society's unreasonable beauty standards, the objectification towards women and how many of us feel about the pressures of aging (both men & women can relate to that)!
Now I knew the film was generating Oscar buzz as it was winning some critics awards but I was still surprised that the film received five Academy Award nominations including the coveted Best Picture! The Academy typically turns its nose at horror films, so it most likely won't win the top prize however, Demi Moore has a great shot at winning Best Actress! Now the Oscar telecast has become too negative and political for my tastes, but if you're interested, will air on March 2nd on Channel 22!
"The Substance" is available to stream on Prime and for purchase on 4K, Blu-Ray & DVD!
