Nosferatu 2024 Review

I was able to catch Robert Eggers' latest film, "Nosferatu"! This is the fourth film version.

I wanted to like this film more than I did. The 1922 & 1979 versions are masterpieces, so I guess expectations were very high!

First, the positives! The sets, costumes & cinematography are all incredible. Robert Eggers has a feel for the time & place better than any filmmaker of this generation. ALL of his films look gorgeous and have authentic sets & costumes! I saw old images of Germany during the 1830's and I was just amazed on how authentic the film looked! Also, the look of Nosferatu seemed to capture the image of Bram Stoker's iconic vampire better than anyone else has before! Also, the performances are top notch! Especially Lily-Rose Depp! Rumors are that Eggers was brought to tears during her audition! Looking forward to seeing more of her on-screen soon!

Unfortunately, the film just underwhelmed me for the most part. Like Eggers' previous films, I just didn't jive with his filmmaking style. "Nosferatu" suffers from overlength and for some reason I felt the film didn't have a good flow. When the story was focused on Ellen & Orlok, it was great, but when the film focused on other aspects, it bogged the film down. To be fair, with this being the fourth version of the film, it is really difficult to top or match the 1922 masterpiece!

Overall, it wasn't bad, but I don't see myself re-visiting the film. Listen to our SPOILER filled conversation about this film by clicking here!
