Home Video Review-Nosferatu

Robert Eggers' new film, "Nosferatu" opened in theatres on Christmas Day and is currently playing in Burlington, Essex, Williston and Glens Falls!

You may (or not be) aware that there's TWO other Nosferatu films already! One was made in 1922 and the other made in 1979 and they're both legit masterpieces!

The 1922 "Nosferatu" film faced a lot of heat because it shared too many similar plots from Bram Stoker's legendary "Dracula" novel! They changed the characters around and certain elements, but it ended up upsetting the Stoker estate so much that they sued and the court ruled that ALL prints be destroyed! Thankfully, several survived and we can enjoy F. W. Murnau's masterpiece today on Blu-Ray (Thank you Kino Lorber)! I've been able to see this essential film a couple of times on the big screen!

In 1979, controversial filmmaker, Werner Herzog decided to re-make the film but also officially adapt Bram Stoker's "Dracula" as well. Yes it was indeed Count Dracula here and not Count Orlok, like Murnau's 1922 film. This version was well received by audiences and critics alike! It's one of the most beautifully shot horror films of all time as well!

I know I mentioned there were two previous "Nosferatu" films but there was another one made ten years ago in 2014 funded by Kickstarter. The filmmakers would use a green screen to insert different colored backgrounds from the original film atop live-action. It did have a limited theatrical run last year and was seen on some streaming platforms via video on demand.

We did discuss the 1922 & 1979 "Nosferatu" films in detail and you can listen to that episode by clicking here!
