So when I first saw a preview for the supernatural thriller, "Presence", with Lucy Liu, I was intrigued. I was weary though that Steven Soderbergh was at the helm. Granted, the guy directed, "The Limey", "Erin Brockovich" & "Traffic" (which won him tons of awards). He also directed the Oceans films, the Magic Mike movies, etc. I haven't enjoyed anything the guy has directed since 2008!
Fast forward to 2025 and we have "Presence"! The film is slightly mismarketed though. The previews make it seem like it's a supernatural thriller with some horror. It is kind of, but after watching at the theater inside the Aviation Mall in Queensbury, I'd say its more of a supernatural drama dealing with family dynamics and their struggles. There's also themes of dealing with trauma, growing up, etc. The film has a unique way of telling the story from the ghost's point of view (first person POV).
I have to say, this is Soderbergh's best work in years! It doesn't 100% work and feels 10 minutes too long, but overall, I highly recommend you see it! If you have seen the film, listen to our SPOILER filled discussion by clicking here!
