The James Bond franchise! An enduring cinema legacy now for over 60 years! If you have read anything on-line, a lot of people are up in arms so to speak saying that the Bond Franchise is dead now that Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli's family have sold the franchise to Amazon MGM! Click here to read the entire story!
No one can really predict the future, but we've seen the results of billion dollar deals with film franchises! Star Wars & the MCU comes to mind. I know I haven't enjoyed a "Star Wars" film in 20 years! (Even "Revenge Of The Sith" was far from perfect). I digress, getting back to the Bond films, it seems like the It's been over a decade since I've seen a decent Bond film. "Skyfall" was incredible! "Spectre" was OK, but definitely a step down. "No Time To Die" was awful though! To me, that was the nail in the coffin for the franchise. Now that Amazon owns the right to the franchise, anything can happen, but most of these situations it doesn't typically end well.
Sometimes it's OK to end a franchise. I'm not a moviegoer that enjoys a lot of sequels and franchises so there is some bias there. But, my opinion is that if the quality of films continue to decline, why keep it going? Of course these types of films generate money, but when it comes to the point where there's no real excitement for the film or character, I move on and choose not to watch. As time rolls on, others may do the same.
Here are my favorite Bond films:
"Dr.No"
"From Russia With Love"
"Goldfinger"
"Thunderball"
"You Only Live Twice"
"On Her Majesty's Secret Service"
"License To Kill"
"Goldeneye"
"Casino Royale"
"Skyfall"
